“Théâtre de la Mode” (Theatre of Fashion) was created after World War 2 by Parisian Haute Couture designers. Mini dolls and costumes were created to tour Europe and US in order to revive the French fashion industry. Dior created a short film titled “Le Myth Dior” inspired from Théâtre de la Mode for their Autumn/Winter 2020-2021 Haute Couture collection.
Directed by Matteo Garrone, the story begins in the atelier where the mini versions of the Autumn/Winter 2020-2021 Haute Couture collection is made. Then we see two bell boys carrying the Théâtre de la Mode into a a forest where mythical creatures live. With Théâtre de la Mode they visit every goddess and present them with the collection. Each of them picks an outfit and then, we see how they are constructed in normal sizes at the atelier. The film ends with all of the goddesses wearing their dress in the forest. I though the film was magical. I loved to see the miniature dresses to be made as meticulous as the real size. The clothes, the setting, the music was percent. The direction of the film is so poetic. The part I loved the most was, the scene where Narcissus were distracted with the beauty of dresses and stops looking at his reflection on the lake. I hope more short films like this will be used for presetting the Couture Collections because this film is for me where art, fashion, music and film collides…
